A healthier workforce benefits employees and employers. Although, most employee health programs document basic health metrics such as body weight, waist circumference, blood pressure to calculate risk scores, they are limited in their ability to predict individual risk in the long term. On the other hand, peak VO2 – a marker of exercise capacity – is a sensitive, personalized indicator of all cause mortality in medicine. CPET is considered the “gold standard” for evaluating peak VO2.
Employers can use CPET as a part of their wellness programs to identify individuals at higher risk of developing heart disease and tailor programs to promote health through better lifestyle, exercise, and medical therapy as needed. The ability to track peak VO2 also provides an incentive for participants to evaluate the effectiveness of their effects.
